Here are some tips for the homeowner should they experience a water damage or fire damage loss:
IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE
Do:
- Keep children, elderly adults, individuals with asthma and pets away from the affected area
- Open windows for ventilation, if outside conditions are favorable
- Tape a double layer of cheesecloth over air registers
- Apply petroleum jelly or WD-40 to chrome, such as faucets, fixtures, frames etc.
- Contact a certified Fire Restoration Contractor, such as Moore Restoration. Remember, handling a fire loss requires special training and knowledge. Many companies claim to handle fire restoration, so verify their qualifications. They should be IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration) certified and/or be members of ASCR (Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration).
Do Not:
- Use radios, televisions, appliances, etc.
- Attempt to wipe off walls or furniture with household cleaners
- Use home carpet cleaner sprays

IN THE EVENT OF A WATER LOSS:
Do:
- If possible, identify and eliminate water source, calling a plumber if necessary
- Try to remove excess water through mopping, towels, etc.
- Turn on Air Conditioner in summer or heat in winter, temperature should remain between 72 - 76 degrees
- Remove furniture from carpeted areas and place plastic below legs
- Remove items stacked on wood furniture and try to dry wood
- Store art in a safe dry environment
